Sg-1 came out of the gate to a planet where it is raining ash and volcano erupting. They said it wasn’t like that when the MALP first came through, so it only happened recently. Jack told Daniel to dial home immediately. Daniel when to the DHD to dial when he thought he saw something out there. He went over to check it out and found bodies laying on the ground cover with ashes. He describes it like Pompeii, “everyone dies before suffocation.” So they each check to if anyone is alive. A man grabs Sam and said, “Don’t help us.”
The SG teams are evacuating the aliens to the gate room. Most of them are still unconscious. General Hammond told SG-1 to get check out in the infirmary, then they will debrief.
In the briefing room, General Hammond is complementing SG-1 on their rescue. Sam thinks that they were trying to get to the stargate. The teams suspect that these aliens are more advanced than earth. Daniel think that because of the Dark Ages which held earth back. During the debriefing, they were informed that the spokesman of the alien wanted to speak with the team.
In the infirmary, the man wanted to know who SG-1 are and where they are. General told him that this planet is called earth, and SG-1 are the people that saved them. The man said, “Nothing could be further from the truth.” The team looks confused at his comment. He said a rescue transport was on the way to save them. Jack said that half his people are already dead, he didn’t think the rescue was gonna make it in time. The man said, "Perhaps that's more of a problem for you than it was for us," and that he couldn’t believe such a primitive race could work the stargate. General Hammond ask who the man is and what he knows about the goa’uld since he seem to have met them before. “I am Omac, our world is call Tollan,” he informs them, “We are aware of them, but we don’t interact with them.” Gen. Hammond then said, “Then we share a common enemy.”
“Did I mentioned an enemy?” Omac demand to have everything that was taken away from his people to be returning to them and he wanted to return to his planet. He refuse to tell them anymore about himself or his planet. So the team left. While they are walking out of the infirmary, a Tollan man stares at Sam, so she return his gaze very confuse.
Next Daniel finds her in the embarkation room working on a miniature UVA to send back to the planet to check its condition. He told her that one of the Tollan man was asking a lot of questions about her, so Gen. Hammond thought that it will be easier for Sam to talk to them and learn more about their cultures.
Gen. Hammond introduce Sam to Narim. He wanted to learn more about Earth, so Gen. Hammond ask Sam to take him to the surface and show him around a bit. Sam agrees and Narim assure Gen. Hammond that he will stay with Sam.
On the surface they walked around and Narim thank Sam for rescuing them back on the planet and wanted to thank her friends. He said he wasn’t supposed to talk to Sam or any of them. He then changed the subject when she ask him “why”. He said back on the planet when he was dying, he saw her, and he thought she was an angel who will take him to her home in the stars. He said their angels were reported to be quite beautiful, and Sam seem to have fit the description. He also learned that Sam was a scientist when he was talking with Daniel. He then seem to be surprise when he saw an eagle, “A flying animal!” he exclaims. He wanted to know if there was any more animals. Sam promise she will bring in pictures for him to look at. He warns her not to let Omac knows. He said Omac is only trying to protect his people, and hers. He suggest them to get back in when he notice the guards looking at them.
The UVA is launched through the gate to Tollan.
Carter: "Temperature: Ground 1700° Fahrenheit, air seems to be in pockets ranging from 1500° to 200°."
O'Neill: "Sounds like L.A."
A person could suffocate very quickly on that planet. The lava is flowing toward the gate and it will be buried in a couple of days.
Daniel and Sam inform Omac what they’d just learned, and he simply said, “Then nature succeeded where we failed.” His job was to bury the gate after evacuating was complete. So now they won’t be able to go to their new home world because it’s not in the gate system and they will need a ship to get there. The Tollans do not want to stay on earth; they can’t go to their new world because of us, so they need to be relocated. Gen. Hammond said Jack and Teal'c are responsible for finding a planet for the Tollans to relocated to.
They’ve returned the devices found on the Tollans back to them. They were tested and found out that they were not weapons. Omac took that as an offense by not trusting them. Omac was informed that they weren’t allowed to roam freely around the facility, and Omac ask if they were prisoners. Daniel assured him that they were not. It’s just for the security of the Tollans and for the earth people.
Sam is visiting Narim with stuff in her hands. Narim is confused of what to do with bed sheets and pillows and other bed accessories. Sam showed him pictures of earth and a cat named Schrodinger. She explained to him why she named the cat Schrodinger. “There was a an Earth physicist named Irwin Schrodinger’s theory that if you place a cat in a box and add a can of poison gas activated by the decay of a radioactive atom, at any one instant the cat would be both dead and alive.” Narim seem to understand what Sam’s talking about and said it was a misconception. Sam was surprise that he seem to have mastered quantum physics. Narim didn’t answer her question because Omac was standing behind Sam. Sam left and Narim assured Omac that he didn’t tell her anything.
In the briefing room, Jack informs Daniel and Sam that they have set up a meeting with Tuplo from the land of light. Gen. Hammond come rushing in and said that the Tollans have escaped. Next you see dogs chasing through the forest and they finally found the Tollans. Omac said they were only observing the stars. Jack told them it’s time to come in and Omac stated that they are prisoners.
They are having a meeting with Tuplo and Omac said that The Land Of Light is unacceptable to his people. He also said that those people are more primitive than we are.
Sam ask Narim why Omac is so stubborn. Narim told Sam of a world called Serita. When the Tollans first began to explore space, they thought that Serita was advanced. They were on a similar stage as earth. So the Tollans gave them a device which produce unlimited energy. The people of that world use it to make war, which had destroy their planet within on day. That is why Omac was so afraid of telling them any information. Narim also told Sam that they were really looking at the stars earlier. They wanted to see how far the new home world is away from earth. “It is very far away Samantha,” he said. Sam asks if he ever thought of saying on earth. He said he would gladly stay with a certain inhabitant of this planet, “I speak, of course, of Schrodinger.”
Omac said what happen before was a test to see how the teams were gonna react to it. He said that they did what he thought they would do, by force and threat to solve their problems. Jack said Omac hasn’t act like someone he would trust, and Omac said that Jack hasn’t either. Omac said that the earth people only want their technologies, nothing more, when Sam suggests to Narim to chose for himself. A guard came in and informs SG-1 that Gen. Hammond wanted to see them. The surveillance camera showed that the Tollans walked through the solid wall. Teal’c said that it is far beyond any goa’uld technologies he’s ever encounter. Colonel Maybourne heard what Teal'c has said and is very pleased. He informed Gen. Hammond that he took place of Colonel Kennedy. “Promoted? Talk about failing upward,” Jack commented. Maybourne said the SGC has to turn the Tollan over to his custody. Jack said that the Tollans have rights, and Maybourne said they don’t. General Hammond said he couldn’t release the Tollans to him becuz they haven’t check to see if they carry any disease or other illness to earth. Of course Doc already cleared them. He’d bought SG-1 an extra day to find an alternative location for the Tollans to go.
Sam told Narim what happened. He said Omac was right. They only want their technologies. Sam explains that they are dealing with a totally different part of the government. So Sam told Narim to convince Omac to chose one of the planets they have offered and relocate there. Narim told Sam that it is useless becuz Serita could happen on any planets becuz they primitive or more primitive than her people. Sam said she wish that he would stop calling her primitive.
Nareem: "You are anything but primitive, Samantha. What your mind doesn't know your heart fills in."
Carter: "I don't know what that means, exactly, but it's beautiful."
Nareem: "Which is exactly what it means."
Maybourne said that he hopes the Tollan will give them superior weapons. They won’t cooperate you know said Jack. Maybourne assured the team that the Tollans will have everything they need. Except a life Jack added.
Gen. Hammond was called outside to meet with SG-1 in private. They figured out a way to help the Tollans leave earth. Daniel can’t be court-martial.
Omac is mad at the fact that Maybourne was asking questions, too many questions as if interrogating them. Daniel explained that he’s from a different part of the government. Daniel said he found a perfect place for the Tollans to go, only he can’t get there. Omac thought that it was another way of getting their technologies, but Daniel assured him it wasn’t. He said that they visited a world and the people of that planet are called The Nox. Daniel think that the Tollans would be perfect to stay there because the Nox feel about them as the Tollans do. Daniel said that he couldn’t reach the Nox and ask if Omac has the technologies to get there. He replies that he needed to go back to the mountain in order to do that. Daniel said he had to go with him. Omac agrees and use his device to walk through the wall and pulled Daniel through with him. On the mountain, Omac ask for the constellations. Then he place one of this device on the ground and active it. It launched a beam into the sky. “Uh, I’m no astronomer, but wouldn’t that take a long time to read the Nox’s world?” Daniel asks. Omac attempt to explained by using a long tree branch. He said the distance between the two end points might seem far until you bring them closer by making a circle. Daniel didn’t exactly get that Omac meant. He only hopes the Nox do.
Sam is working in the control room when she heard Narim calling her name. Then she saw him talking through the wall. “"Oh my god, how do you do that?" she asks. "Very...carefully," he jokes. He has come to say good bye to her. He said either way he will be leaving. But he said he would regret leaving her behind. Sam said he’d forget her in a second. So he gave her a device which records his feelings for Sam every time they were together. She turned it on and saw what he felt for her. Narim said that there is this custom where it expresses more than words. He leans over and kisses her. She returns his kiss and said that they have that custom too. Daniel came in while they were kissing, and all it came out of his mouth was “Whoops”. After they broke the kiss, Daniel said he need Sam to help him with something. Narim said he too must go, and Sam told him don’t forget Schrodinger.
Maybourne is telling his plans of evacuating the Tollans, but was disturb by a guard whom informs him the Tollans have disappear. She said the Tollans walked through her when she stood in their path. The alarm goes off. The gate has been activated off world. The blast door open and reveals the Tollans, Teal'c, and Daniel in the gate room. Maybourn warns that if Daniel continue with this, he will be court-martial. To his disappointment, Daniel can’t be court-martial.
The gate came to life and Lya stepped through. Daniel came up and said hi to her. She said the Tollans are welcome to join the Nox, and tell them to come. Omac said “Narim was right about you, Perhaps in time we'll meet again." He pats Daniel on the shoulder. Narim turned to give Sam one last look and began walking toward the gate. Maybourne threaten to fire when Lya make the guns disappear. And then the Tollans began to disappear as they walk toward the gate. “God, I love those people!” Jack said with a smile. Maybourne looked at the team with anger and left the control room. They ran to the gate room where Daniel is standing staring at the gate. Daniel then remembers what one of the Nox man said to them.
“The very young do not do as they are told.”
