Sam is discussing the Seeker Project with General Hammond and SG-1 as the sound of the Stargate firing up is heard. The Gate technicians detect an inbound traveler, with no SG signal code. A computerized voice booms "Inbound traveler…unauthorized" as the iris closes and a loud impact thud can be heard. Everyone is curious, eyebrows raised. What just happened?
Later, they discuss the "signature" left behind by the impact – nothing organic, but traces of iridium were detected. This was the same material they placed in the Sagan Institute box SG-1 left behind on Cimmeria –Thor's world. Teal'c discusses that they assume Thor is a member of the Asgaard – an extremely advanced culture. Perhaps they are trying to make friendly contact? "We did destroy their de-goa'ulding thing, don't you think they'd not look kindly on something like that?" questions Jack. Daniel, ever optimistic, thinks the Asgaard would understand, if it was done to rescue a friend, even a friendly Goa'uld. SG-1 is very anxious to return to Thor's world and make contact, if that is what the signal meant.
General Hammond agrees to send a probe and if all is OK, SG-1 can go as well. The probe reveals dead natives, apparently killed by staff weapons, as well as dead Jaffa! Clearly, Cimmeria has been invaded by Goa'uld! The probe picks up a woman, Gairwyn, who guided them during their last visit. She is pleading "Please! The Ettins have come! Please help us! The Ettins have come!" O'Neill appeals to Gen. Hammond "General, if we did screw up their world, we should take a little responsibility for fixing it – don't you think?" The General is not so sure, responding, "Let me play devil's advocate. It's not our world. Is it really any of our concern?" Teal'c steps forward and offers, "The destruction of the hammer device to save my life may have caused this. If so, I am responsible." To which Jack adds, "General, I gave the order." Equally guilty, Daniel chimes in, "I fired the staff at the machine," and not to be left out, Sam adds, "And I…was there!" Apparently argued into agreement, the General gives his permission and agrees they can go, but cautions them to keep their heads up on this one!
Strangely, no one seems to be around as SG-1 exits the Stargate. Thor's stone obelisk that had transported them to the labyrinth with the hammer machine, is charred – the top broken away. As they begin to scout around, O'Neill spots three pyramids under construction in the distance. "That," says Jack in a deeply concerned tone "is no weekend hunting lodge!" Gairwyn approaches and is very happy to see them, "Kendra said you'd come, she never doubted it!" Gairwyn describes the attack by a Goa'uld ha'TAC vessel (pyramid ship). She goes on to tell them that their village was gone and most of the farmland as well. She is the one who flew the box to Earth, under Kendra's instruction. SG-1 learns that the cost of sending it was great as Gairwyn's husband and his brothers were killed.
Suddenly, the group comes under fire from a Jaffa patrol. O'Neill instructs Daniel and Sam to get Gairwyn to cover while he and Teal'c engage the Jaffa. Using a grenade, O'Neill prevails, however reinforcements arrive. Jack and Teal'c flee through the woods as staff weapon blasts are everywhere. Finally, they lose the enemy by hiding and as Sam, Daniel and Gairwyn approach, they narrowly avoid firing on each other!
Daniel asks Gairwyn to take them to Kendra. Gairwyn drops her eyes and seems upset, but beckons for them to follow her. She leads them to a large gravesite. Sadly Gairwyn explains, "Kendra and her family reside here, hopefully she is now with Thor…My dearest friend…Kendra used her knowledge only to heal…and this was her reward." As Sam retrieves a collection of items from Kendra's grave, Gairwyn tells her "It is customary to leave a person's favorite items outside the grave to take with them on their journey to Thor…These items are of no use to any of us." Sam doesn't seem to be listening, as she effortlessly applies the glove of the Goa'uld ribbon device to her left hand. Daniel reacts to how strange this appears and asks "Sam?" As Sam examines the fit, the device powers on and begins to glow at the center of her palm! As Daniel comes forward to join her, Sam reacts with a mixture of astonishment and horror! Gairwyn excitedly proclaims "You possess the power!" Daniel immediately begins to analyze the situation "That would make sense, wouldn't it?" Sam, still not fully comprehending asks "Why?" Daniel continues "Kendra retained the ability to use Goa'uld technology because she used to be host to a Goa'uld. You must retain the ability because you were a host to Jolinar!" Sam almost doesn't want to hear this, "But, I have no control over this!" Gairwyn offers that it took Kendra years to master the power.
As they reveal this discovery to Jack, he wants to see it work. Sam stutters, "It seems to have a mind of its own, sir!" Gairwyn encourages her to try. Sam points her palm forward – toward the ground, concentrates and a blast of energy shoots out! Sam is frozen in amazement, and as she turns toward Jack – her palm still extended, he backs away shouting, "Hey! Watch where you're pointin that thing!" "Sorry!" Sam says as she rips off the glove. Daniel can hardly contain his excitement, "Sam could use the ribbon device to fight the Goa'uld, and the healing device Kendra used as well!" Sam holds the circular healing device in her palm and tries to make it work. Nothing happens. Gairwyn continually encourages her to not give up as it takes time to master the power.
Jack reminds everyone they don't have time now, and suggests they move to a less public place. Gairwyn guides them to the hiding caves of her people. The men inside draw their swords and order SG-1 to halt. An apparent leader of the men, later identified as Olaf, steps forward calling them dogs! "Thor has abandoned us to the Ettins because of them and their evil! It is these that brought this down on us!" he angrily exclaims. "And it is these who can save us!" Gairwyn bravely defends. SG-1 offers their help. Teal'c tells them he will remain and fight until the Goa'uld are driven from their world. Feeling they have little choice, the men drop their guard and offer to show O'Neill and Teal'c the enemy's position.
Sam continues to try to activate the healing device, to no avail. Gairwyn ponders, "If only we could gain access to the Hall of Thor's Might…I know he would help us!" Jackson is intrigued. Gairwyn continues "The ancient tales tell of a hall in which Thor has placed all his powers – to help us." Jackson wonders whether this could mean a hidden Asgaard weapon. "Where is this Hall of Thor's Might?" he asks Gairwyn.
The warrior, Olaf, O'Neill and Teal'c approach the Goa'uld main camp. They see Horus guards among the Jaffa – similar to those who guarded Ra on Abydos. Teal'c informs Jack "These probably guard Heru-ur…son of Ra and Hathor!" "Nice pedigree!" Jack sneers. Teal'c further cautions "He is a very powerful system lord…much feared! He is a conqueror and eliminates all who dare to tread in his shadow!"
Olaf is captured by Jaffa. Heru-ur approaches him. A bird-shaped helmet covers his head. He commands "Kneel before your god!" Olaf remains standing saying "Thor is my god!" Olaf is forced to kneel as Heru-ur reveals his face taunting "Your god can not help you now! Only I can!" He demands to know who the strangers are that came through the portal, and begins to torture Olaf with his ribbon device. Jack and Teal'' fire on the Jaffa, but Heru-ur is protected by an energy field. As they escape, Teal'c turns to face Heru-ur, preventing him from picking up a staff weapon. As their eyes make contact, Teal'c appears very unnerved, almost afraid! Angrily, Heru-ur orders heavy guard at the Chappa'eye, and demands that SG-1 be found.
The scouting party arrives back at the caves and informs Jackson they ran into Heru-ur! Daniel recognizes him as Horus-the-elder, an ancient Egyptian god, and a pretty mean one! Meanwhile, Jack has both good and bad news. The good is that they have enough artillery to "blow the pyramids to high hell" but the bad is that the Stargate is heavily guarded, so they can't evacuate. Daniel suggests that they stay in the caves until things calm down. Teal'c helpfully explains, "Things will not calm down, Daniel Jackson, they will in fact calm up!" Jack interprets, "He means things will escalate, of course!" Teal'c is concerned because the pyramids are most likely landing pedestals for Goa'uld mother ships, which would have many death gliders. Jack determines that there is not enough C-4 to blow the pyramids now and the mother ships and gliders later. Daniel offers them another option – the legend of the Hall of Thor's Might. It just could be an alien weapon!
Teal'c and Jack will lay C-4 charges to slow an attack on the caves, while Daniel, Sam and Gairwyn look for Thor's weapons. Out in the woods, Gairwyn shows them another of Thor's obelisks. She is certain it is the Hall of Thor's Might! Daniel is perplexed, he was expecting "maybe…a hall?!" Gairwyn nervously warns that it is forbidden to touch the center red stone. Daniel flexes his fingers, much like a safecracker would do, and grabs hold. A flash of light bursts toward them – and they find themselves in complete darkness. "Wow! What a ride!" Daniel offers. They now find themselves in what seems to be a hall. Sam has a bad feeling about it all.
An obelisk at the end of the hall lights up, as Thor's image appears stating in a commanding voice "I am Thor!" Gairwyn kneels and asks for Thor's help. "Only the worthy may witness Thor's might!" the image continues. He raises his hammer and shimmers away. Sam explains to Gairwyn that it is a holographic recording, but Daniel is not as convinced. They wonder what it all means. Daniel guesses "We must prove we are worthy before he trusts us with his might!" Thunder crashes are heard as the room shakes and vibrates wildly. Gairwyn is certain Thor is preparing to strike them down. Daniel yells, "No! He's not a wrathful…god!" Suddenly the entire floor crumbles away into a bottomless pit. All that remains is a small ledge they are standing upon and a slender rocky beam across the length of the room, leading to the obelisk – which sits on another ledge. Daniel moans "Oh! This is definitely a test!"
Sam offers to go across, as she had to do much worse in basic training – of course then there was a net! Daniel reveals he has a problem with heights, and he looks on very apprehensively. Slowly, Sam crosses, arriving safely on the other side. Gairwyn is next. As she crosses, the beam shakes, causing her to fall on her stomach. She is frozen in place from fear, clinging to the beam. Sam offers to come back to help her, but Daniel interrupts, "No, I'll do it! You're already across." He swallows hard, musters all his courage, and ventures out onto the beam. When he reaches Gairwyn, he asks for her hand to help her stand up. As she tries to raise herself up, she loses her balance, and they both fall! Sam stares, first in horror, then with a perplexed look, as she walks toward them – on solid ground! They are fine! Thor's image reappears, praising them for their selflessness and bravery! Now they are told they must add wisdom to bravery before he will reveal his true might! They approach the obelisk once again, and the light sends them to yet another room, to solve "the riddle of the runes!"
Jack, Teal'c and Olaf have been busy laying C-4 charges. They see a Jaffa patrol approaching, and they succeed in blowing them up with the C-4. More Jaffa come, and they fight them off with their guns. Olaf is impressed with all the thunder and fire. He is certain they possess Thor's might. Olaf throws his ax between Jack and Teal'c, killing an undetected Jaffa. He proudly claims "Now we are matched!" Other patrols are heard in the distance.
Daniel is examining the runes on a wall, constantly being rushed by Sam – who is certain Jack would need their help by now. Jackson explains how runes were idea-graphic, representing ideas. One could be Thor's hammer, another the dice cup – maybe fate, a third is a horse – perhaps movement, and the fourth Thor's chariot – a spaceship? One wall has the runes, another pictographs and yet another simple geometric shapes.
"Come on Daniel!" Jack breathes almost as a prayer, as the patrols close in.
Daniel is confused, "I have no idea what he wants us to do!" Thor's image appears once again, "There is no shame in this! Perhaps in more time you will have come of age!" In a sense of panic and discovery, Daniel implores him to stay, just for a minute. He has it! The runes could also represent numbers! 3…14…15…9! "It's no use! It doesn't mean anything!" Daniel despairs. Sam says excitedly, "Yes! Yes, it does! 3.14159, it's Pi!" Daniel goes to the circular geometric shape on the wall and traces the radius with his finger. This is to represent Pi. As he does so, a red stone is revealed. As Daniel touches the stone, a bright light appears behind Thor's projected image. The image fades revealing an ET-like alien, bathed in blue light. Softly, the alien announces "I am the actual one whom you know as Thor!"
Everyone else is now hiding in the caves. The sounds outside indicate they have been located. "Come on, Daniel!" Jack prays again.
Sam and Daniel are awestruck. Sam can't believe how much Thor looks like the pictures from the Roswell site back home! She wonders if Thor's race had visited Earth. "Why not?" a stunned Daniel responds. Thor informs them he is the Supreme Commander of the Asgaard fleet. Sam still thinks it is an ancient hologram, to which Thor responds "To the contrary! This is a living transmission from the Asgaard ship Reliskner!" Daniel explains how they need his help, that the Goa'uld are there. Thor is certain that is impossible, as Cimmeria is a safe world. Daniel responds without thinking "Yeah. We sorta messed that up!" Sam warns him to be careful. Daniel continues to explain how they destroyed Thor's hammer to save Teal'c. Thor unhappily points out "You have opened Cimmeria to attack by the Goa'uld!" Sam asks if there are any weapons. Thor says no! The tests were to judge when they were ready to see the Asgaards as they truly are. They didn't anticipate outside interference! Abruptly, Sam and Daniel are beamed, by a bright light, back to the first obelisk. Gairwyn is missing.
As Sam and Daniel enter the caves they are told the Goa'uld outnumber them 20 to 1. Daniel painfully tells Jack there is nothing – no weapons. Sam does point out that they met the real Thor, though. Jack asks if he's a nice guy! Sounds of a blast cannon can be heard. The warriors exit the cave, as Jack says "Here we go!" The Jaffa surround the cave. They demand the surrender of SG-1, then they will spare the slaves of that world. If they continue to fight, everyone will die. The team looks to Jack, who raises his weapon in surrender! As they are being marched off, Daniel quotes the Sioux warriors, "This is a good day to die!" O'Neill hits him on the shoulder in response. Loud peals of thunder are heard from everywhere. "Then again, maybe not!" Daniel exclaims hopefully. An enormous ship appears out of the clouds above the pyramids. O'Neill is now awestruck "Oh my! Ladies and Gentlemen, I think this is Thor's Chariot!" A screeching sound and bright white light vacuums up all Jaffa as well as the pyramids! Heru-ur escapes through the Stargate, however.
Gairwyn is transported back to the group. She has news from Thor. He wants SG-1 to know that he is a member of a species who has visited Earth often. They are a friend to all, protector of all, except the Goa'uld with whom they are at war. The Asgaards will send a protector to help make her world safe again, and the new hammer will make an exception for Teal'c, who will always be welcome!
