Out of Mind

Technicians are hoisting a large glowing tube out of a smoky chamber. It is slid into position atop a table next to a control console. A woman stands at the console, a man obviously in command, orders "Begin cryoreversal!"

The woman repeats, "Beginning reversal."

The machines beep and hum and the chamber opens revealing a moisture covered Colonel O'Neill. He is disoriented and gasps for breath.

"It's OK, Colonel O'Neill, you're in the SGC. You're going to be fine. No...don't try to speak Colonel, give it some time," the woman tells him.

The man announces, "Welcome back to the land of the living, Colonel! I'm Major General Trofsky...this is Dr. Raleigh."

The Doctor adds, "Maybe we can try to answer some of the questions that are probably weighing heavily on your mind!"

"First, I regret to inform you that everyone on your team, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Captain Samantha Carter, and a Jaffa named Teal'c are all deceased," the General sadly tells Jack.

"As a matter of fact, I imagine everyone you ever knew is probably gone now," the Doctor finishes.

"You see Colonel, the year is now 2077!" Jack simply stares in shocked silence.

A little later, the Colonel looks a bit more comfortable but is still inside the tube. The Doctor again questions him, "How are you feeling Colonel?"

"A bit confused."

"Understandable—you've been in cryogenic hibernation for almost 79 years!"

"How?" Jack weakly asks.

"We were hoping you could tell us. You were sent back through the Stargate already frozen—we're guessing by some advanced culture. You were placed in a deep freeze until the technology was developed to safely revive you. Do you have any idea what happened to you on that planet?"

"No...General, I'd prefer not to answer any more questions until I walk around a little, get my bearings," Jack requests.

The General agrees and offers to show him the facility. He is told he can be safely removed from the infusion needles for an hour or so. They walk around the SGC and witness teams moving about.

"Has it changed much?" the General is curious to know.

"There's no place like home, sir!" O'Neill evasively comments. "General, what happened to my team?"

The General repeats the explanation; "They didn't make it...their bodies were sent back but they were already dead. I'm sorry Colonel, it was a long time ago."

"Maybe for you..." Jack softly adds.

They tour the Gate room. The General asks again if he recollects what happened on his last mission.

"I wish I did sir. I remember intel. Suggested the planet we were going to was ruled by a Goa'uld but I don't remember anything after we stepped through that Gate," Jack tries to remember.

"Any idea why the Goa'uld would save your life? Send you back through the Gate?" the General continues questioning.

"Certainly not their MO," Jack states ruefully.

"We feel whoever did help you was able to beat back the Goa'uld in order to do so, we'd love to know who that could be."

"So would I, sir."

The General takes a new tactic, "We'd like to try a new technology to help you remember."

"Sure..." Jack agrees.

An implant is placed on Jack's temple by the Doctor as she explains, "The technology was a gift from the Tok'ra."

There is a sharp buzz and Jack reacts in pain, "Oww! God! What is that?"

"It's OK Colonel, it's in, that's all the pain you'll feel. This device stimulates the memory centers of your brain and amplifies it, then it is projected holographically. It's a hi tech version of hypnosis, and we've also given you a light sedative," the Doctor continues ministering to him.

"Concentrate on cultures or races who had advanced technology," the Doctor suggests.

"The Nox did, they could revive their dead." His memories of the Nox play out on the hologram screen, including their invisible city in the clouds.

"The invisibility could be a powerful weapon against the Goa'uld, could it not?" the Doctor asks.

"Probably, but they wouldn't use it in that manner...they wouldn't even fight in self defense," Jack reveals.

"Anyone else?"

"The Asgaard..." Jack's memories show Thor's Chariot—the Asgaard mother ship. He also recalls when he gated to the Asgaard world and they spoke to him of the alliance of the Nox, Furlings, Ancients and Asgaard. "They're part of an alliance," he further recalls. The memory of the room of the alien United Nations on Ernest's world is revealed next. The visions begin to fade and O'Neill falls asleep. More chemicals are infused into his IV.

The General and the Doctor then enter another room, where a similar tube is being hoisted out and placed on a table. In like fashion, it is opened up—revealing a soaked and startled Dr. Jackson. "It's OK, Dr. Jackson, you're in the SGC—you're going to be fine!" he is told.

A third tube is removed in another room. The General reveals, "This one has naquada in her system, so keep her a little more dosed." Sam chokes to awareness and hears, "It's OK Dr. Carter, you're in the SGC and you're going to be fine!"

"SG-1!" she chokes out.

"I'm afraid they didn't make it, Captain. I'm sorry!"

Carter now has her probe inserted, "Ah, this hurts a little...is this really necessary?"

The Doctor confirms, "It is important we know who would have the technology to do this—they would be a very powerful ally against Apophis!"

Sam reacts with surprise, "Apophis? Isn't he dead?"

"Of course he is! We're merely stimulating the region of your memory that involves doing battle with the Goa'uld," the Doctor explains her slip. "Tell me how you defeated Apophis." Sam's memories show how they blew up Apophis' ships. "Impressive, Captain! The end of Apophis!"

Sam is again suspicious, "The beginning of the end, yes. His forces were so weakened another Goa'uld got him."

Daniel is now connected to the memory device, as the General questions him, "If it wasn't Apophis, what other Goa'uld could it be?"

"Well, there seems to be a lot of them...Sokar..." Daniel begins remembering Sokar's attack on Earth. "Heru'Ur..." He remembers his run in with Heru'Ur on Abydos. "And then of course there's Hathor. She almost succeeded in doing some pretty big damage..." he reveals memories of Hathor's invasion of the SGC, then his memories fade away.

"What's wrong?" the General asks.

"I need to know exactly what happened to my friends," Daniel asks.

"As I said, they were sent back through the Gate already dead."

"What about General Hammond?"

"I'm happy to report he lived to a ripe old age of 93!"

Daniel reflects as the news finally sinks in, "So, everyone I ever knew basically is ...gone..."

"I'm afraid so," the General confirms.

Teal'c is waking in bed, being examined by Doctor Frasier, "It's OK! You're in the SGC Teal'c!"

He sits up suddenly, "Where are the rest of SG-1?"

Hammond responds, "We were hoping you could tell us! When you didn't return, we sent SG teams 3 and 7 after you. They found you lying next to the Stargate. There was no trace of Colonel O'Neill, Captain Carter or Doctor Jackson. We assume they were captured."

Fraiser asks, "You have no recollection of this, Teal'c?"

He thinks a moment, "It was a mixture of Horus and Serpent guards, a very unusual mixture."

"Serving what Goa'uld?"

"That I do not know. General Hammond, I will return to the planet immediately to search for the answers," Teal'c offers.

Hammond doesn't agree, "I can't let you do that Teal'c."

Teal'c insists that he will not remain idle when his friends are in danger, it is then that Dr. Fraiser reveals he has been unconscious for three weeks. He can't believe that could be possible, his symbiote should have awakened him. She gently tells him he was very near death.

Hammond tells him, "Dr. Frasier spent most of the three weeks at your side. I am convinced it was her refusal to give up that kept you alive."

Teal'c tips his head to the Doctor, "I am in your debt, Doctor Frasier. Permit me to return and search for my friends they could be prisoners."

Hammond shakes his head, "If they are prisoners, they are long gone form that planet and could be at any Goa'uld stronghold. You'd be searching for a needle in a very large haystack!"

Teal'c insists he must try, but Hammond denies his request. "If the people of the Tau'ri have given up hope on SG-1, then it is with great regret that I must leave this world and return to my people."

"You want to leave the SGC?" Hammond asks incredulously.

"That is correct!" Teal'c tells him.

"I can't let you do that Teal'c."

"General Hammond, I hereby respectfully inform you I must take my leave of the SGC, therefore I am no longer under your command."

"I can't allow you to do that, you are too great a security risk!"

"I would die before revealing any information about this world.. I believe you know that."

"Yes I do..." the General admits.

"I will depart in one hour," Teal'c concludes.

Jack wakes to hear the 'General' and the 'Doctor' speaking in Goa'uld tongue. He had held the IV with a crimp in it, and now is strong enough to pull it out. A technician comes to see why he is coughing and Jack attacks him and escapes, after changing into his uniform.

Teal'c leaves the SGC, dressed in his home world robes. Hammond tells him he will be missed.

"I have learned much from you General Hammond, for that I thank you!" Teal'c says.

"I've learned a lot from you too Teal'c, so we're even on that count. Take care of yourself!" They exchange salutes and Teal'c leaves.

Jack begins exploring the SGC, still with the memory probe intact. He opens a door and finds what looks like a Goa'uld ship interior. Serpent and Horus guards are patrolling the halls. Suddenly, Jack is struck by the memories of fighting the guards on Apophis' ship and he falls to the floor in pain. His head finally clears and he resumes searching. He finds Carter's chamber, and frees her—suggesting she put on a technician uniform as well.

She begins to tell him, "I thought you were dead!" which triggers her memories of when he was impaled by the alien probe. "They said..."

"Goa'uld, Carter," Jack responds.

"Daniel? Teal'c?"

"Don't know yet..."

They set off exploring together, as Sam comments, "Sure looks like the SGC. Can't we pull these things off?" she is referring to the memory probes.

Jack thinks about it, "I don't know, you tell me!"

Carter: "Yeah, you're right. Pulling them out might cause some nasty collateral damage."
O'Neill: "Yeah, we don't want that."

Eventually they find Daniel, who is also shocked, "I don't understand...they said..."

"They're Goa'uld, Daniel," Sam tells him.

"What year is it?" he asks.

"1999, more than likely," she responds.

"So, this is all a hoax," Daniel concludes.

"Big hoax, I'd say so," Jack answers.

"I have more questions...but that can wait!" Daniel announces as they move out and continue searching.

O'Neill (sees a door blocked out by a wall): "Damn cost cutting."

Carter comments on how the façade is part of a larger Goa'uld facility, complete with Horus and Serpent guards. Daniel finds that a rather odd alliance. They end up in the Stargate room.

"I've never seen this place so deserted!" Daniel marvels.

"Guess they figured they don't need to keep up the act if we're unconscious," Sam comments.

"I don't understand," Daniel tries to figure everything out. "Who would have spent enough time on the base to be able to reproduce it in this kind of detail? You don't think Apophis..."

He is interrupted as Hathor suddenly appears from behind the Stargate, "Silence!" she commands as she walks directly to Daniel's side.

Jack is visibly disgusted, "I was so hoping never to see you again!"

She looks lustfully at Daniel, who does not react to her, "We have indeed missed you, our Beloved!"

Sam cautions, "Daniel! Don't let her breathe on you!"

Hathor snaps, "Do you think we would go to these lengths if you were not already immune to that organism? Do you like our guards? We managed to lure them from the remote outposts of our enemies. We are quietly building our forces before the system lords know we are alive. Doing so is difficult when we have to operate with limited knowledge of the state of the empire."

Jack steps forward as Daniel retreats from her, "Let me take a guess, just a wild guess, that's where we come in, right?"

"We know more than you do!" Carter exclaims.

Hathor coyly responds, "Perhaps...We are prepared to offer you a life of luxury as servants in our royal court for sharing information. Deny us, and you will not enjoy the alternative!" She stops directly in front of Jack.

Jack looks down into her face and says, "You know.. you really should do something about the breath!"

Hathor interrogates him, "How do we contact the Asgaard so we might align with their forces?"

"Try Roswell, a little place in New Mexico!" Jack quips.

She moves to face Carter, dragging the GDO along Sam's chin, "What is the sequence of numbers necessary to open the barricade protecting your Stargate?" Sam does not respond.

Hathor turns away from them, "If you will not give us the information we desire, we do have another means of retrieving it. A Jaffa steps forward. "An opportunity has presented itself at a most fortuitous time..." She pulls out and holds up a mature, writhing Goa'uld. "Our friend here is ready for a host! Tell us...which one of you shall it be?" The three team members look at her nervously and do not respond.
