The opening shows Colonel Makepeace returning from a mission to the SGC. He literally runs to Hammond's office. Hammond is busy meeting with Major Davis, asking for support for three new teams. Makepeace apologizes for interrupting, "When scouting 254, Sir, we came across several members of the Tok'ra. They told us the location of SG-1. They've been taken prisoner, Sir, by Hathor!"
Next, Makepeace shows Hammond a map. Hammond is puzzled, "Colonel, why do I get the feeling I'm looking at blueprints of my own base?"
Makepeace explains, "You are, Sir. The entire section of the facility is a mock up of the SGC!"
"Peculiar!" Hammond comments.
Makepeace continues, "Unlike Cheyenne Mountain, the Tok'ra say the exterior of the base is unguarded. They expect resistance to be light."
Major Davis interjects, "Can we trust them?"
Makepeace is obviously irritated but answers nonetheless, "Their operative on the inside took a big risk just to get us this information, Sir, I think so.
Davis again comments, "If there's an operative on the inside, why didn't they do something?"
Hammond knows the score, "They did do something, Major!" To Makepeace he asks, "Do you have the coordinates?"
"Yes Sir! My team is ready to go!"
"And you will, but not alone!" Hammond calls the President, and wants every available SG team ready to deploy in the Gate room in 2 hours.
Davis raises objections, "SG-1 is a valuable asset, but they're still just one team!"
Hammond shuts him up, "Major! You've got a lot to learn about how we do things around here! Let's get the job done!"
Later, all the teams are assembled in the Embarkation Room. Hammond announces, "You've all been briefed on the mission by Colonel Makepeace. You all know the enemy, you know the risks. I would rather not order you to do this. All those willing to attempt the rescue of SG-1, take one step..." And before he can finish, all teams step forward.
"Very well!" Hammond bids them. "SG units 3, 5, 6, and 11... bring them home!" They all move out.
The "real" Gate room fades into Hathor's mockup of the Gate room. Hathor paces, "We ask you once more. Which one of you shall be host?"
Jack snidely comments, "He has her yes!"
"Silence!" Hathor commands. She reaches Daniel and gently strokes his face. He looks straight ahead and does not move. "Should it be our beloved? We could spend an eternity together! Do you not remember the joys we once shared in each other's arms?"
"I really try not to," Daniel firmly states.
Hathor moves along, "Shall it be the female then? She who would challenge us! You have since been possessed by a Goa'uld we sense. Perhaps once more!"
Sam stares at her defiant, "I'm not afraid!"
"You should be!" Hathor warns. "For the pain that a symbiot can inflict in its host is unimaginable!"
She approaches Jack, still holding out the Goa'uld, and he flinches away. "It seems as if our friend has chosen!"
Jack swallows and says, "Oh, the gray doesn't bother you?... Alright... fine... let's do it. Just please... I beg of you... not in the back of the neck, I've got some problems!" He grabs at the symbiot in Hathor's hands as a zat gun fires hitting O'Neill and the symbiot. He reacts in pain and falls on his back onto the fake Gate ramp. The symbiot slithers off.
Hathor whirls to face Dr. Raleigh who fired the shot, "Fool!"
Raleigh reacts, "He would have harmed the symbiot!"
Hathor spits, "Which you have done in his place! Return it to the safety of the Jaffa. Take him to where he can be properly restrained!"
Jack is unable to move as Sam tries to help what little she can.
Makepeace now arrives on the planet. He leaves a contingent behind to guard the Gate and moves out. They pick up power signals and move toward them, but there's no radio chatter from SG-1.
Teal'c has returned to Chulak, as he searches out Bra'tac's house he finds it in shambles and Bra'tac himself trapped under rubble seriously wounded.
Teal'c helps him out and asks, "Who has done this?"
Bra'tac struggles to speak, "The last of Apophis' personal guard. They left me for dead."
"For what reason?"
"When I first heard the news of Apophis, my heart soared, Teal'c. I hoped there would be celebration among our people. Instead they fear that with the death of Apophis, Klorel will return to claim his inheritance."
"They are cowards," Teal'c says with contempt.
Bra'tac is recovering somewhat, "What of your human friends?"
"Prisoners of a Goa'uld. I have come to raise an army with which to free them."
"That will not be so easy, Teal'c."
"But I must try. Until then, you are in need of food and rest, and I am in need of armor!" Teal'c announces, his resolve quite evident.
Hathor is once again proudly pacing about a room heavily guarded. Daniel and Sam watch her approach Jack who lies on a bed.
Hathor reprimands him, "We are not pleased!"
Jack, who can barely move his head, quips, "And neither are we!"
Hathor strokes his face lovingly, then rips out the memory device as Jack groans in pain. "Once host to the Goa'uld, you will take the lives of your friends!"
"We don't think so!" Jack manages to say.
Hathor is amused, "You will have no say in the matter! You will witness their deaths through your own eyes, helplessly!" She is smiling and stroking his hair as he tries vainly to flinch away. She reaches down and rips open the front of his shirt. "It may take some time for the Goa'uld to take control. We will greatly enjoy experiencing your eventual defeat!" She removes the Goa'uld from the Jaffa's pouch and lays it on Jack's chest.
Jack is frightened, "Oh God! No!!"
The symbiot curls around to the side of Jack's neck. Hathor continues to torment Jack, "After you awake from the joining, you will kneel and pledge your loyalty to us!" Jack tries to move, as Hathor turns his head to one side, exposing the back of his neck. He screams as the Goa'uld enters.
Sam can't look, she squeezes her eyes closed. Daniel remains statue still, arms hugging himself, staring emotionless. Jack struggles visibly, still unable to move. Hathor is visibly turned on by all this.
Sound of gunfire is now heard. Daniel and Sam are herded out of the room and the guards disperse. Jack is left with Dr. Raleigh to watch him as Hathor also flees.
Makepeace and crew are shooting their way through the complex, securing sections as they go.
As soon as Hathor leaves, Dr. Raleigh sets the cryo controls. Jack is still very much in distress. She turns his head to look at her and better focus on what she's saying, "O'Neill, you must fight it! I am Tok'ra. The cryogenic process will prevent the melding. The Goa'uld will die, but until then, you must fight it!" The lid on the cryo pod slides closed, and Jack is lowered into the freezing vat.
Makepeace's troops eventually meet up with Sam and Daniel and free them. Sam reacts, "Colonel Makepeace!"
He asks her, "Where is Colonel O'Neill?"
She bluntly tells him, "He's been taken as a host!"
"WHAT?" is all that Makepeace can say in disbelief.
After Jack is lowered down, Hathor appears and orders Raleigh "Jaffa, kree!"
She responds, "Kel'noc kree, Jaffa! If the Tau'ri do not destroy you, know this, we will!"
Hathor hesitates a second, then fires an energy blast at her, slamming Raleigh against the wall. She falls motionless to the floor.
Makepeace's men at the Gate come under attack by Goa'uld and they lose radio contact. Makepeace wants to leave at once to secure the Gate, "Lieutenant! Pass the word! We're moving out!"
Daniel is stunned, "W..w..wa..aa wait a minute! What about Jack?"
Sam joins him in protest, "If we can get him back to Earth..."
Makepeace interrupts, "Captain, if my team has lost control of the Stargate, we aren't going anywhere! We're pulling out! Let's go!"
Sam and Daniel look at each other incredulously, but are given no choice but to move out.
On Chulak, in full armor, Teal'c encounters a brazen woman, "I know you! Sho'vah! You dare to return to Chulak?"
Teal'c tries to explain, "The people of this world are my brothers and sisters. I have betrayed no one!"
"Except your god!" the woman cries out hatefully.
"Fake god! Dead, false god!" Teal'c says just as hatefully.
"So you say, but his son lives!" the woman continues. Two Jaffa move to either side of Teal'c.
"With you or without, he will be defeated! As was his father. Our people will taste freedom," Teal'c still tries to convince her.
"Bra'tac paid a heavy price for those words!" she finishes.
Teal'c reacts and overpowers the two men. "You may tell your kinsmen that Teal'c has returned to Chulak! You will go to every home of every warrior in this city! You will tell them that I will speak at the house of Bra'tac at dawn! Summon them!" Teal'c yells at the woman, sending her fleeing.
It is now dark on Hathor's world. Makepeace and company arrive at the Gate but don't find anyone there. They move toward the Gate and run into a force field, as transport rings appear next to the Gate. Trofsky and guards appear. Makepeace opens fire, but the weapons don't penetrate the energy barrier. Trofsky orders an attack as Makepeace orders his people to fall back. Massive gun turrets erupt from the ground and Jaffa inside begin blasting. A large explosion hits behind Sam, killing one man and knocking down Daniel. He looks in horror at the dead man as Sam grabs for his arm, "C'mon Daniel!" She begins to move, "Daniel, let's go!" He is stunned, but gets up and starts running. Eventually the survivors dive into a tunnel discovered by Makepeace and get a brief respite.
Sam notes, "These are Tok'ra tunnels!"
Makepeace fills her in, "They have an operative on the inside!"
"Who is it?"
"Don't know, don't expect to find out any time soon either!" Makepeace closes the discussion. To a limping Jackson, he queries while on the move, "How's the leg? Can you walk?"
Daniel immediately notes the Colonel's true lack of concern, as long as he's walking, and sarcastically quips, "Oh, it's just a deep, bleeding gash, but it'll be fine!"
Sam suggests, "If we can't penetrate this barrier of theirs, maybe we can go under it!"
Daniel reacts, "It's worth a try." As they move out.
Trofsky talks to Hathor through a communication orb, "They have fled into the tunnels of Tok'ra construction. There must be a spy among us."
Hathor tells him, "The Tok'ra spy has been taken care of. Capture as many of the humans as you can alive. They will make an excellent addition to our army of Jaffa!"
As the SG teams move through the tunnels, they encounter the energy barrier once again. Daniel is frustrated and comments, "Well, I guess we can't go under it either!"
Sam continues to reason, "The power output for something like this must be enormous!"
Makepeace doesn't want to hear her ponder, "That's fascinating, Captain, but now what do we do?"
Hammond is growing nervous as Makepeace is hours overdue for reporting in. He wants to open the Gate and send a message through the MALP's relay antennae.
It is now morning at the Gate. Trofsky and his guards react to the chevrons engaging and to the Gate opening.
Makepeace hears in his headset, "SG-3 this is General Hammond!"
They are able to talk to one another and Makepeace tells him they have 2 surviving SG-1 team members, but they've been cut off from the Stargate, and they need reinforcements.
Hammond orders the MALP camera to pan the area in order to view the enemy, and he promises reinforcements in six hours. Trofsky destroys the MALP camera when he sees it begin to move, so communication is lost.
Hammond begins to argue once again with Major Davis, "One armored platoon should be able to take the Stargate!"
Davis answers, "General, Sir! I'm sorry! It's not up to me! Even if it was, I don't agree with you!"
Hammond is extremely frustrated, "I don't give a damn if you agree with me Major!"
Davis tries having the last word, "The President and Joint Chiefs are simply unwilling to risk further loss of life, sir! Those are their orders! I'm sorry, I'm afraid if your people are going to make it back, they're gonna have to do it on their own!"
"I see," Hammond concedes, "Thank you, Major!"
An obviously exhausted Makepeace and teams stop in the tunnels for a water break and rest. Daniel is limping more now, but is keeping silent about his injury.
Sam offers, "Sir, I've been thinking, the energy barrier must be powered from inside the facility. Some sort of field generator. If the Tok'ra used these tunnels to access the facility...."
"They must lead to it somehow," Makepeace finishes.
Sam agrees, "Right! Request permission to go back and try to shut it down."
Daniel jumps to offer, "I'll go with you!"
Sam flatly turns him down, "Daniel, you're hurt."
"I'll send a team along to back you up," Makepeace plans.
Sam refuses his offer, "Even if I do take out the generator, you'll need everyone you have to take out those towers."
Makepeace agrees, "Alright." He hands Daniel a handgun. He accepts it and turns it over in his hand, contemplating it. "If you can blow the generator just before the reinforcements come, then we'll try to take out the towers at the same time. That's the tactical advantage we need!"
Blasting sounds can be heard in the distance. Makepeace says, "We'll try to keep the door open. People! Let's move out!"
Daniel struggles to his feet and Sam moves out.
It is morning in Bra'tac's house. Many are assembled as Teal'c prepares to speak to them from a balcony.
Bra'tac introduces him, "Teal'c has returned from the Tau'ri. If you care for this world and for our people, you will listen to what he has to say!"
Teal'c addresses the crowd, "The Goa'uld are not gods! It is a lie we live each day! Only with the aid of a host does the Goa'uld become strong, even then only as strong as the Jaffa who serve them! Without us, the Goa'uld are nothing! WE are their strength! WE are their power! We choose to serve them no more! I was witness to the final breath of Apophis. I watched him tremble with fear of what lay beyond! I believed that day would be honored for all time on Chulak. But instead I see Jaffa taking up arms against one another! I see cowardice and I am ashamed! This is OUR time! It will NOT come again! But first we must grow stronger as the people of the Tau'ri have done. I call for warriors to join me through the Chappa'Ai. To forge alliances with other Jaffa who seek freedom. To show the Goa'uld we will do battle with them. Where ever we may find them! Who will join me?"
The room quickly empties, until only a few brave souls remain, including... General Hammond!
Teal'c is very surprised, "General!"
Hammond encourages him, "Not what I'd call an army, but it's a start!"
Bra'tac smiles and approaches him, "Hammond of Texas!"
Hammond gets down to why he's there, "Master Bra'tac... Gentlemen... I need your help!"
Sam makes her way back to Jack's cryochamber and finds the Tok'ra woman groaning on the floor. She weakly speaks to Sam, "Forgive me, there was no other way."
Sam recognizes who she must be, "You're the Tok'ra!"
"The controls are set," the Tok'ra motions toward the cryo control panel.
Sam presses the indicated buttons and Jack's cryo pod raises up.
"The Goa'uld within is gone. The cryogenic process destroyed it before it had a chance to meld with the host. He will revive automatically," Raleigh tells Sam.
Sam begins to fuss over a still unconscious Jack, "Colonel? I don't fell its presence. You're gonna be alright!"
Hathor appears suddenly, and raises her glove weapon at Sam.
Meanwhile, Makepeace, Daniel and teammates are being fired upon in the tunnels. A man goes down and Daniel rushes to help him, but Makepeace grabs Daniel by the shoulder and drags him out of the line of fire. They move along.
Sam is in great distress as the ray from the ribbon device is penetrating her forehead. She goes down on her knees in pain.
Hathor reprimands her, "We had hopes for you!"
Unexpectedly, Jack grabs Hathor from behind and holds her fast.
"WE WILL DESTROY YOU FOR THIS!" she screams.
Jack screams back, "WE WOULD JUST LIKE YOU TO GO AWAY!" as he throws Hathor over the railing into the cryo vat. Quiet bubbling noises are all that remain of her.
Shivering, he kneels and pulls Sam up off the floor, to a sitting position.
Sam is stunned, "Sir! What happened?"
They grab onto each other in an intense hug.
All Jack can manage at first is, "Oh, God!..... Hathor's... augh... gone!" He is shivering violently now.
"What about you?"
"Cold! I'm a little chilly! But... I'm... me!"
Sam starts to fill him in on the details of the mission, "Colonel Makepeace came through with half a dozen SG teams to rescue us. But Trofsky's got us cut off from the Stargate. He's using an energy barrier!"
They remain hugging.
Sam continues, "That originates somewhere in this facility. The plan is to blow it before General Hammond sends reinforcements."
Now the hug ends as Jack pulls back, "And how do we plan to do that?"
The Tok'ra woman answers him, "What you seek is hidden within the mockup of your Stargate facility. My symbiote may yet heal me... you must hurry. Go!"
In the Chulak forest, Hammond asks Bra'tac and Teal'c, "What exactly are we looking for?"
Teal'c begins to explain, "As you said, General, the Gate is carefully guarded."
Bra'tac is very excited, "To be assured a victory, it will require an advantage, one that has been hidden away, forgotten since I was first prime of Apophis. Few pilots could master it. Hidden some 100 years, the forest has changed much in that time!"
Teal'c speaks, "There is an old Jaffa saying, General Hammond. They do not build them as they once did!"
Bra'tac uncovers a death glider like ship. Hammond just stares, "Do you intend to fly this thing?"
Bra'tac smiles, "Not I, threading the needle is the skill for the young!"
Sam and Jack move around Hathor's facility searching for the generator. Sam comments, "The energy barrier extends around the facility for miles. The generator must be massive!"
They enter the mockup of the embarkation room. Sam notes, "We're getting close! The energy readings are off the scale!"
Jack approaches a giant switch on the wall, "Whadda ya think?" He pulls it, and the wall behind the fake Gate moves, "Found 'em!" Revealed are absolutely gigantic turbines! They set C-4 charges to detonate by remote.
Still in the tunnels, Makepeace, Daniel and company are captured by the serpent guards.
Outside now, Sam and Jack approach the Gate cautiously, stopping at the tree line. Through field glasses, they see the hostages, bound and kneeling in front of the Gate as Trofsky paces about.
Jack turns to Sam, "This part of your plan, Captain?"
"No, Sir!"
Trofsky begins to yell, "I know that you're still out there Captain Carter! I grow tired of this. Surrender now, or your friends will be killed one by one!" He raises his zat gun to Daniel's head.
Daniel bravely offers, "Don't listen to him Sam!"
"Silence!" Trofsky angrily yells. "I will give you one minute!"
"The reinforcements should come through in a couple of minutes. We could detonate the C-4," Sam suggests as a plan.
"They'll start shooting any minute. We've got to buy some time," Jack pauses and thinks. "He thinks I'm a Goa'uld, right?"
"Right!"
"Right! Blow that C-4 the minute the cavalry comes through the Gate!" Jack rises to leave.
"What if they don't?" Sam questions.
Jack can't believe what she just asked, "WHAT IF THEY DON'T?"
"They will!" Sam quickly amends.
Jack starts walking toward the Gate, as he tucks a gun behind his back, and Trofsky turns to face him. Jack yells, "Jaffa! Kree!"
Trofsky looks a bit uncertain, "Kel'mac, Goa'uld!"
Jack keeps on walking, "You heard me! I said 'Kree'!"
Daniel reacts to Jack's very normal sounding voice, "Jack?"
Jack just chats away at this point, desperately buying time, "Hi guys! Makepeace! Nice rescue!" Makepeace nods and almost smiles.
Trofsky is not amused, "Silence!" he orders once again.
Jack continues anyway, "Alright! Listen up! Before you start shootin and killin and ruining what could be the start of a beautiful relationship..." (he pauses)... "Our beloved Hathor is dead!"
Trofsky laughs, "What you say is impossible! Hathor is a Queen! More than that, she is a Goddess!"
"OK, ex-Goddess, maybe. I killed her myself! Trust me on this one! She's gone! She's no more! Let's face it! She's a former Queen! So why don't we put an end to this right now?" Jack finishes.
Trofsky raises his gun, "We will end this with your surrender!"
The Gate begins firing up, Trofsky orders, "Jaffa, kree, Chappa'Ai!"
Teal'c and Hammond prepare themselves in the death glider, and Sam blows the C-4. Hammond asks, "What exactly did he mean by threading the needle?"
Teal'c calmly responds, "Observe!" as he flies the glider through the wormhole. Their ship exits the Chappa'Ai and takes out a gun tower.
Jack shoots Trofsky and Sam warns Jack out of the way of the remaining gun tower's blast. He dives, and is narrowly missed. Trofsky gets up again, but is shot by Bra'tac and the Jaffa coming through the Gate with him. Hammond takes out the remaining gun tower with a loud war whoop, "Yeeeeeeee haaaaaawwww!"
Sam goes to Jack's side and suddenly it's all over. Jack and Bra'tac shake hands as Jack calls him "Bra'tac!" and Bra'tac calls him "Human!" Everyone reunites, obviously glad to be alive and free.
