SG-1 searches through a heavily forested area, looking for the UAV that had apparently been shot down by the Goa'uld. They discover the remains of the UAV, and it does seem to have been hit by a staff blast. As they try to make sense of this, Daniel walks into a wall of energy, slamming full into it and bouncing off. Jack orders the team to fall back, but the energy field surrounds them completely, dome-like. Even Jack's weapon fire doesn't penetrate it.
A man appears from behind a tree, dressed in armor, wearing a helmet that covers his face and carrying a large gun. He tells them his weapons can penetrate the shield, and he demonstrates! His name is Aris Bok. The team has not heard of him, although he calls himself one of the galaxy's greatest hunters. Bok addresses them each by name, and Jack quips, "Fancy that! We're famous!"
As they are forced to drop their weapons, Aris tells them he's disabled the Stargate dialing device. They walk to a large clearing and he demands they drop their gear, and orders them inside. Jack asks, "Inside what?" As Aris issues a one word command, a ship materializes and a door opens. Teal'c recognizes the vessel as a Goa'uld cargo transport, of an older design. Bok playfully tells him the cloaking technology is an upgrade! He enters a code on a keypad and marches them into an interior room, then promptly leaves.
Sam rushes to tell O'Neill, "Sir! He's not Goa'uld!"
Jack is less than impressed as to how that helps them, "And? But? So? Therefore?" Sam doesn't answer him. Jack inquires as to how fast the ship can fly, and Teal'c responds two times the speed of light. Sam tells them it would still take ten years to get home. Jack rues that he should have let the dog out!
Bok returns to the ship angry and in obvious pain. He demands that Dr. Jackson treat his wound, to which Daniel responds, "I'm an archeologist!" Aris is irritated now, "I know that, but you're also a doctor!" "Of archeology!" Daniel stubbornly states and doesn't move to help. Bok enlists Sam's help and she dresses the wound.
Aris reveals that he is hunting a Goa'uld named Keltar to trade to Sokar.
"So… what do you expect to get for us?" Daniel asks.
Jack moves to silence him as Bok answers, "Teal'c is worth the most, as the System Lords would love to make an example of him, Carter here has the memories of the Tok'ra Jolinar, and you O'Neill - you're considered a pain in the nikda!"
"Neck?" Jack asks.
"No!" Teal'c responds.
Daniel persists, "What about… what about … me?"
Bok gruffly answers, "Probably be happy to get a day's rations for you!"
"Oh! A day's rations!" Daniel replies, seemingly hurt.
Jack sidles next to him, "Trade ya!"
Bok offers them freedom if they help him capture the Goa'uld, as he's worth twice as much as all of them put together!
Daniel wonders whether or not they can trust him, and he insists his word is good on over 2,000 planets. Jack complains that there are millions! Teal'c realizes they basically have no other choice. Bok can't believe there is actually a debate going on, after all it's a Goa'uld they're talking about. He hates them, they hate them, everyone hates Goa'uld!
Jack agrees that they will help, but when Aris chooses Daniel and himself to go, and forces Teal'c and Sam to remain behind, Jack is not pleased. As they walk along, Aris stops to drink. Jack asks what the plan is to capture this… "Kevlar!" "Keltar!" Bok snaps, then tells them they are going to surrender to him!
"That's a bad plan!" Jack tells him.
"What if he shoots first! Takes prisoners later?" Daniel asks.
Unsympathetically, Aris retorts, "That's your problem… GO!" He hands Jack a zat gun, instructing him to shoot the Goa'uld when they get close enough. Instead Jack shoots Bok with the gun, and explains to Daniel how he plans to fly the ship to a close by planet with a working Stargate and get home.
"Good thinking!" Daniel tells him.
"It happens!" Jack chides.
They return to the clearing and try to remember how to make the ship reappear and open the door. They know it must be voice activated, but are having trouble remembering the word. After several silly attempts by Jack, Daniel comes up with Bark-da. Jack is not impressed, "If it was bark-da, the door would be open, wouldn't it?" Daniel is growing frustrated; "This was your idea!" Jack retorts, "You're the linguist!" At length, Daniel remembers it was "Barok-da" and the door opens!
They try to open the inner door by pressing keys on the keypad. Teal'c yells from inside they must enter the correct combination of five symbols on the pad. "How many combinations could there be?" Jack asks. Daniel simply stares, "O… oh boy!" As they desperately fiddle and punch keys, Jack notices a blinking light on the console of the ship, and what appears to be a countdown. Teal'c confirms that such ships could very well have a self-destruct mechanism. They are unable to override it, and the countdown continues.
Bok returns and enjoys their faces as he points his gun at them and waits down the countdown, all the while leading them to believe he's willing to let the ship be blown up with all of them inside! Then… nothing happens, he laughs and replaces a missing crystal, letting them know it is NOW activated. He also reveals that the zat gun has no effect on him. He fires it at himself and describes the feeling as a tickle! Apparently he only pretended to be knocked out to watch them sweat a little. Jack fires another zat blast at him, just to be sure, and Bok says "Oh… ouch!"
Aris tells them he's disappointed that he can't trust them. Jack counters that his plan simply sucks, and Bok offers that they all go together this time! Back into the woods they go. Sam asks as they walk, why the Goa'uld haven't made him into a host. He says there's something about his race's physical makeup that rejects the Goa'uld blending. He has no idea why. Most of his people were killed off with the youngest kept as slaves... including his son.
Bok decides to stay behind and observe from a distance, keeping Major Carter with him as he sends Jack Daniel and Teal'c to capture Keltar. If they don't return, he threatens to turn Sam over to Sokar.
The team approaches the cave where the Goa'uld was last seen. Teal'c reasons that the Goa'uld must have a weapon called "Tacs", automatic remote weapons that are also heat seeking. Jack throws a flare, and the Tac orbs blast it. They in turn disable the orbs with zat guns. Then they toss a gas canister into the cave, and a choking man emerges and begins firing on them with a glove weapon, then collapses. He is badly injured.
He recognizes who the team is, and asks for their help, telling them his name is Korra, and that he is not Goa'uld, rather he is Tok'ra!
Meanwhile, Aris is tracking them using the naquada in the weapons he's given them. Sam offers to help liberate his son, if he'd help Earth discover the secret of his immunity. He tells her that's not possible, and drinks again.
Jack asks Korra if he can prove he's Tok'ra. He says they have to take his word, which Jack is very reluctant to do. Korra warns that Aris will most likely trade all of them back to Sokar once he is captured.
Sam tries to explain to Aris how Goa'uld and Tok'ra are very different, but he feels it's all the same bad blood. He mocks her as she talks about defeating the Goa'uld, and his hand starts to shake as he drinks some more.
Korra says Aris has no wife and son… that it's all lies. He is addicted to a substance called rashna, as are the rest of his people. The Goa'uld have done this to him, and he can not live without it. Jack doesn't want to believe Korra, but he's beginning to feel choiceless all over again. Korra tells them to leave all the Goa'uld weaponry behind, so Aris can't track them.
When Aris figures out they are wise to him, he shoots Sam and waits for the others to come. They know it's a trap, but Jack goes to her anyway. The others hide. She wakes to Jack's touch, just as Aris appears hovering in his ship. Once again Jack and Sam are prisoners within Aris' ship, and Jack reveals that the Goa'uld is actually a Tok'ra named Korra. Sam recognizes the name. Just then, the door opens and Teal'c, Korra and Daniel are paraded inside. "Oh YA! Way to play hard to get guys!" Jack says in exasperation.
Bok announces that he has what he wants, and the rest are free to go! One of Sokar's mother ships is on the way, and Bok needs to trade Korra. Korra says he won't be taken and tries to activate a poison capsule in his mouth, but Bok hits him with a blast from his gun before he is able to.
Aris is confused… the action is not Goa'uld-like. Sam tells him yet again it's because he's Tok'ra. Aris squirms a bit, saying that Sokar is on the way and he has to give him something! Teal'c offers himself in trade to Sokar. Jack objects, but Teal'c says they are choiceless once again. Jack tells him they will find him, as Bok returns the missing piece of the DHD to Sam.
Aris takes off from the planet with Teal'c. As they fly away, Bok asks Teal'c why he would betray Apophis. Teal'c explains that the Goa'uld are enslavers of worlds, and the humans value freedom. "You don't believe the Tok'ra and the humans have a chance of overthrowing the Goa'uld, do you?" Bok asks. "I do!" Teal'c firmly responds. "I don't think so," Bok answers. "I would rather serve with those willing to die trying!" Teal'c adds.
There is a large explosion in the sky over SG-1's heads, and two escape pods fly over them. Aris and Teal'c climb out. Bok told Sokar's ship he was having technical difficulties, then he sabotaged his own ship! Everyone is very glad to have Teal'c back, including Korra. Bok plans to be long gone before Sokar figures he's still alive. He'll find other Goa'uld to trade with for the rashna he needs.
In parting, Bok turns to Daniel, "Oh! Doctor Jackson! I was lying to you before! The price on your head is far more than a day's rations, in fact the Goa'uld want to see you dead as much as anyone for figuring out how to use the Stargate!"
Daniel is briefly stunned, "Thank you! That… doesn't make me feel… ANY better!"
Aris gives Sam a sample of the rashna, hoping Earth may someday help liberate his people. Teal'c bows silently to the warrior who smiles and watches them leave.
