The Stargate engages as the iris code shows a signal from the Tok'ra. Martouf exits the Gate along with two other Tok'ra. He has bad news. Sam's father has been captured by Sokar and is presumed to still be alive, but most likely has been sent to hell.
Martouf proposes a rescue mission to the moon Natu, where Jacob is most likely being held prisoner. The only person known to have ever escaped from there is Jolinar, but she never told Martouf how she managed to do so. Martouf asks Sam if she would be willing to use Tok'ra technology for retrieving memories. She agrees.
Martouf also reveals that something larger than Selmac/Jacob's recovery is at stake. The Tok'ra feel that Sokar is about to launch a massive attack against the System Lords and if he did, he would likely succeed. The fate of the galaxy is at stake, and they need details about the pending invasion. Hammond feels he can't refuse, and gives O'Neill a go for the mission.
As they agree to go, Jack quips "I'm gonna end up in hell sooner or later, might as well check out the neighborhood."
The Tel'tak, cargo ship, they require for the journey is on the planet Borash, as there is no Stargate on Natu. They Gate to Borash and transport rings bring them into the cargo ship. It is the same one in which Jolinar was found adrift after her escape.
Teal'c sits at the controls, confident he can pilot the ship. Martouf warns that he may have to avoid Sokar's forces while they are on the surface. Jack is nervous that Teal'c won't be coming with them, but as the ship can't land on Natu, the only way to the surface is by using descent pods… and there are only four of them.
They begin traveling to Natu, as Martouf explains how Sokar transformed the moon by filling the atmosphere with toxins and blasting down to the core, releasing the molten contents. It is a hellish world, barely survivable.
Martouf applies the memory aid device to Sam's temple. It is similar to that used by Hathor, only in respect for Sam's privacy the memories she regains are not going to be projected. First Sam relives a time when she was a young girl and her mother had just died. Then Martouf redirects her to the last night Jolinar and Lantash spent together before Sokar captured her. Sam is able to recall this. They then take a rest. While Daniel and Jack sleep, Sam asks Martouf to try again. Suddenly, she relives Jolinar's torture by Sokar and begins to scream. The memories of the pain are so vivid they are unbearable. The screaming awakens Daniel and Jack. Sam shouts for Martouf to shut it off, which he does, but he also tells her he will turn it on again, at a lower setting. She recalls images of what happened to Jolinar on Natu, but not how she escaped. Martouf keeps insisting she tries harder, and Jack asks to speak to "Marty" alone. Jack tells him he's pushing too hard. Martouf doesn't want them to go to the surface with him if Sam can't remember how Jolinar got free. Jack says they're going anyway, and if Jolinar could escape, so could they.
Daniel goes to Sam to ask if she's OK. She tells Daniel that she saw images of a Goa'uld on Natu, and his image made her feel sick. Something worse than the torture and pain happened between Jolinar and this Goa'uld, something Jolinar never wanted Martouf to find out about.
The ship arrives above Natu. Martouf moves the memory chip behind Sam's ear to keep it concealed. Martouf also has a device he believes will penetrate the atmosphere and allow them to stay in touch with Teal'c. Daniel looks out of the ship's view window and comments on how far down it seems. Martouf explains the technology of the pods and attempts to reassure a very nervous Daniel. They each get into separate pods, as Teal'c closes the pods and jettisons them. After a fast and fiery ride, they land on the surface. Jack exits his pod, shaking and obviously sore. He locates the others and Sam directs them to the opening to underground. They enter caves with fires burning everywhere around them. Daniel comments how his lungs are burning. The heat is oppressive and gets worse as they go farther in.
Jack talks to Teal'c, tells him they're OK. Sam leads them through the tunnels to one of the few inhabitable places. The tunnel opens into a large cave-like room. Tortured screams can be heard. A large wall of barred chambers and fire rises along the side. Soon the inhabitants of Natu surround them. They are dirty, unshaven and half dressed. Sam announces they've come to see Binar, it is the name of the Goa'uld she saw in Jolinar's memories. A hooded figure armed with a staff weapon approaches them, and demands they kneel before him. He is Nay-o-Nak, first prime to Binar, Lord of Natu. He tells them they can not see Binar, and orders them banished to the surface.
Jack draws his weapon and tells them to back off. Then a pulse of energy hits him from a hand device. As Jack lies gasping on the floor, Daniel, Sam and Martouf are grabbed and forced to kneel. The Goa'uld who fired the device demands "Who asks for me by name?" Sam responds, "I do. I am Samantha Carter host to Jolinar of Malkshur." Binar commands, "Take their weapons, throw them in the pit!" They are dumped through a metal trap door into a cell below. The door is bolted and locked. There are bars around them, and more screaming can be heard. A weak voice calls out, "Sam?" It is Jacob. He is weak and barely alive. Selmac is dying within him. Martouf gives Jacob a drink to help sustain him, but fears he won't live much longer without treatment.
Teal'c witnesses a transport ring flash from the moon surface to the planet around which it orbits. This is Binar, who is going to visit Sokar. He wishes to thank Sokar for returning the Tok'ra Jolinar, the one who betrayed him, so that he might seek his revenge. Sokar tells him he did NOT send her to Binar. "They are intruders. Find out what they want, then kill them." Sokar then orders for the ship that brought these intruders to be found and destroyed as well.
Jacob tells Martouf that Sokar's army is ten times larger than they thought, and that he will win. The attack was to begin two weeks from the day he was captured, four days ago. Jack hails Teal'c on the communication device, and Martouf begins to tell him what he must relay to the Tok'ra high council, when guards enter the cell. Nay-o-Nak has come for Sam. She goes, feeling that if she can talk to Binar, she might learn how Jolinar escaped. Jack is upset but has no choice but to let her go.
She is brought to Binar's quarters. Nay-o-Nak keeps guard just outside a partially open door. Binar knows Sam doesn't have in symbiote in her. Sam tells him she once carried Jolinar. He tells Sam that Sokar took one of his eyes because of Jolinar. He asks why they have come. Sam hesitates to respond. Binar guesses that she's come to rescue Selmac, as he is the most recent addition. Sam remains silent. Binar denies having helped Jolinar to escape, and now he wants revenge, but since Jolinar is dead, he'll have to get some pleasure from killing Sam.
Sam sees a star-shaped necklace on Binar and has a memory flash of Jolinar grabbing the necklace while Binar slept and using it as a key to summon transport rings, thereby escaping. As Binar brings his hand device to bear on Sam, Nay-o-Nak steps into the room and kills him, thereby saving Sam's life.
Sam is returned to the others and tells them what happened, and how there are transport rings in Binar's quarters. Jacob warns there will be an uprising. Jack says now is their opportunity. The cargo ship Teal'c is flying has rings, if Teal'c can manage to properly position himself, they could get free. Teal'c's ship then comes under attack, as Daniel tries to raise him with the communicator. The guards enter to see what Daniel is doing, and Jack, Sam and Martouf overpower the guards.
They begin to make their way to Binar's quarters as Daniel still tries to hail Teal'c. When they get there, the star-key necklace is missing. The guards are beginning to search for them, as Martouf tries to activate the rings without the key. Teal'c is under heavy fire, as Martouf tries to ready the rings and the guards are battering down the door.
Nay-o-Nak appears and blasts the door open, before the group can escape. They are all forced to kneel. He proclaims, "You shall call me Nay-o-Nak no longer. From this day forth, I will reclaim my real name." He removes his hood and announces to a stunned group, "Apophis!"
