Covert Ops

Daniel crept quietly through the corridor, acutely aware of the heavy silence that made every move sound like a naquadah-enhanced explosion. He could feel the presence of Jack at his back, keeping an eye out for any guards. Teal'c moved soundlessly through the hallway in front of them while Sam brought up the rear.

Finally they arrived at their destination, and Jack carefully pushed the door open. Teal'c swiftly moved inside, scanning the darkened room for any occupants. The team waited in silence before he gave the all-clear signal, then relocated. Teal'c and Sam stood guard near the door, watching for any incoming personnel.

Jack and Daniel quietly stole away to the other side of the vast room, finding their goal. Jack pulled the door open, and a faint light shone down on the two men.

"Shit." Jack slapped his hand over the light. "Hurry."

Daniel slid his backpack off and began filling it up. Jack helpfully pointed out several items that they needed, and Daniel dutifully stowed them in the pack.

Sam tapped against the wall, the signal that someone was coming. Daniel hurriedly threw the backpack onto his shoulders again, and Jack swiftly yet quietly closed the door. They melted back into the shadows near the walls, crouching behind a table. Sam and Teal'c took refuge on the other side of the room, just as someone entered and flipped the lights on.

Daniel held his breath as he heard the approaching footsteps, and silently grinned as he heard a muffled gasp. Risking a peek over the edge of the table, he saw that Teal'c had pounced on the intruder and clapped his large hand over their mouth.

"You did not see us here," Teal'c advised softly, and the wayward man nodded hastily, eyes wide in surprise.

Jack signaled to Sam, and she made a hasty retreat from the room. Teal'c shielded his captive's eyes as Jack and Daniel likewise made their escape, and he flipped the lights back off. "Do not follow," he rumbled before releasing the man and fleeing with the rest of his team.

They met up in a storage room several corridors down, and locked the door behind them. "That was a close one," Sam said, sighing in relief.

"Hey, we're just that good," Jack replied, and nudged Daniel with his shoulder. "Distribute the goodies, Doc Jackson."

Daniel dropped the backpack on the floor and rummaged through it. "Okay, who wanted what? I've got a chicken salad right here..."

"That is mine," Teal'c informed him, and smiled as Daniel tossed the sandwich to the Jaffa. "Thank you, DanielJackson."

Daniel nodded. "Okay, tuna fish, gotta be yours, Jack..."

"You know," Sam said as Daniel continued handing out their booty, "one of these days we're going to get caught by someone higher-ranking than us. Like General Hammond."

"Oh come on, would they deny their heroes some midnight snacks?" Jack scoffed.

"We did scare the shit out of that SF, sir."

"He'll get over it," Daniel butted in, now placing several varieties of soda on the floor. "At least he didn't faint like the last one did."
